Tension arises between Laban and Jacob. God instructs Jacob to return home and says that He will be with him. We start to see spiritual growth in Jacob as he trusts the Lord. Rachel apparently doesn’t have the same trust in God with this move because she snags her dad’s household idols on the way out the door. There was another lady in this Story that had a hard time letting go of stuff in the past and moving forward with the Lord. Remember Lot’s wife? Yeah, that didn’t end well. Anyway, Rachel’s idol problem causes more family strife but the Lord intervenes and protects Jacob again. Jacob and Laban depart in peace. Did you notice before they departed that Jacob offers a sacrifice on the mountain? Jacob is coming to the Lord the Lord’s way and trusting in His promises. Everything in this Story points us to the ultimate sacrifice, Jesus Christ, who will come to take away our sins forever but for now the blood of animals is shed as a covering of sins and a picture of the Savior to come! This is a true Story all about our Savior Jesus Christ! Isn’t it marvelous?! Next up Jacob encounters Esau. Does Esau still want to kill Jacob? Keep reading.
